The short version

Email team@virlow.com with any question. Never send us your master password: we do not need it, and we will never ask for it.

Contact us

The best way to reach us is by email at team@virlow.com. It helps us answer faster if you include:

  • The device you are using, such as a Mac, a Windows PC, an iPhone or an iPad, and the browser if you are on the web.
  • The app version, which you can find in Settings.
  • What happened, what you expected to happen, and the steps that led there. A screenshot is welcome, as long as it does not show anything private.

Please never send your master password, your sign-in password or two-factor codes, by email or any other way. Nobody at Virlow will ask you for them.

Getting started

Virlow runs in your browser at app.virlow.com. Create an account there and you are ready to write.

A native app for iPhone and iPad is coming soon. It signs in with the same account you use on the web, so your notes will be there on both.

Master password and encryption

Your notes are encrypted on your device with a key derived from your master password before anything is sent to our servers. For ordinary unlocking and syncing, your master password stays on your device.

That means we cannot read your encrypted notes, and we cannot reset or recover your master password. If you lose it, your encrypted notes cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. Keep it somewhere safe, such as a password manager.

Your master password is separate from the password you sign in with. If you forget your sign-in password, you can reset it from the sign-in page, but that does not reset your master password. Your notes open again only if you still know it.

Two optional features work differently: the hosted AI connector, which is off by default, and running code. Both make selected content readable outside your device. The security page explains how.

Sync and offline

Your edits sync across every device where you are signed in to the same account.

In the iPhone and iPad app, when it arrives, edits to an existing note made while you are offline are saved on the device and sent once you are back online. Creating a new note needs a connection.

Your account

You can manage your account from Settings in the app:

  • Change your password. Under Security, you can change your sign-in password, and you can change your master password as long as you know the current one.
  • Two-step verification. Also under Security, you can turn on two-factor authentication, so signing in asks for a code from an authenticator app as well as your password.
  • Delete your account. Under Account in Settings. Deleting your account removes your account data and encrypted content as described in our Privacy Policy.

Privacy and terms

Read how we handle your data in our Privacy Policy, the rules for using Virlow in our Terms of Service, and how your notes are protected on our security page.
